RE: DEQ time in Oregon

Must be a Portland metro thing. The rest of the state has to put up with all the other silly laws that come about from the yahoos in Salem and Portland, Shhhh... don't tell or they will make the rest of us do that silly poo.
BTW: I have been face to face with a cougar with only a telephoto on a camera to shoot it with, and they are spooky when they stare at you.

RE: Short notice

Who here would consider two days to be short notice to go camping nearby?
***
All we need to do is add water to tt, food, and clothes and go. How hard is that? It is to hot to stay home.
I like kakampers idea, get a space up the canyon and call him up and say, "get your spare panties and come meet me." I haven't been back up quartsville way recently, but I have heard the spots going up to yellow-bottom are fewer and restricted. I don't suppose Waterloo is far enough for you :W You could always come over my way, Philomath, and hit Salmon berry or Black berry CG but with as warm as it is I suspect they will all be packed.
When we were still at home and working, I'd call my husband at work (he worked 4-12) on a Friday afternoon and tell him "don't go home, I'm at "blank" campground, meet me here when you get off"...
Can't get much shorter than that...he never complained, I was all set up when he got there!!!You got a good one!!! I'm going to have to try that and see how it goes.

RE: Duramax MPG with Chip and Exhaust...

It's your truck and you can certainly do anything you want to it...but you are jeopardizing the 100k warranty.
Ooo, scary.
I waited until mine was pretty much out of warranty to start making it better, in retrospect I should have started sooner. Exhaust, intake... it never ends. Just because you change something or modify something doesn't void the entire warranty, how many folks go from the dealer to the tire shop and get new wheels, tires and lift or lower before they have 10k on the clock. That voids just as much as intake, exhaust and economy or power mods. The whole key is not to get stupid and think you can thrash something and expect coverage, pay-to-play is the way.

RE: Dometic refrigerator recall

We just had ours done 2 weeks ago also.
Shield sheet metal things now make access to the unit a bit of a pain for a service tech in the future. Then there are wiring things that cut power to the unit if there are any issues, more to trouble shoot if you have no power in the future.
I say it took half an hour total.

RE: Balancing rear tires?

I used to work in fleet maintenance on city coaches. We never balanced the rears, only the front if there were a vibration at speed. When we did balance the front it was the whole assembly wheel, tire, hub and drum on the unit.

RE: Brookings Oregon to Astoria?

It is not going to happen!! Too much traffic, two lane road and too many lookie lu's. In july it is one of the slowest roads you will find. No one is in a hurry except you. If you want to make time stay on I-5.I agree.
Even in your car, you are only gonna be as fast as the RV in front of everyone in line. Even with them pulling over to let you by, still not doable.
Every town will slow you way down. Much of the road is posted at 55 with 45 sections, and as stated unless you are gonna do it in the middle of the night it ain't gonna be a potty stop only trip.
Way to many turons. :W

RE: Biodiesel use in 7.3 powerstroke

You should be fine but around here it is the same price as diesel so whats the point? My truck runs better on BioD. Even with about 10% fewer BTUs there is still enough poop to pull the trailer and get done what I want. BioD has way fewer toxic stuff than even most gas motors. If we weren't such complete morons we would be using it instead of shipping it to Europe for $, that my friend is why we are paying as much and more for #2 DinoD as for BioD.
So lets count the reasons to use BioD: less coin going to terrorists, cleaner air, some vehicles like it, farmers work and there may be other reasons too.

RE: Biodiesel use in 7.3 powerstroke

*** An '01 vehicle is fine as far as seals and such but the bio will flush the petro diesel residue and deposits from the tank and lines so it is recommended that you change the filter after 1000 miles (or maybe it was 500, can't remember)2nd voice for carry an extra fuel filter and know how to change it.
I started using BioD blends some time ago in my truck, the first time I changed the FF there was a black sludge in the canister. It is generally a good idea to have and know how to change your FF in case you get a bad slug of regular fuel anyway.
As stated, B5 will work in almost any Diesel vehicle, B20 in most, B99/100 in a few. Post 1995 vehicles were made to allow the 5% blend, or B5, but fuel lines may soften over time. By soften, I mean they get squishy and start weeping. Viton lined hoses are spendy but may be for you if you go higher than B50 on a regular basis.

RE: How do I use TT in Winter ?

couple of things to think about.
Will you heat the TT or winterize every time you leave?
IMO, for the black tank dump when you are ready to leave and after your three day stint with a little extra water. To bypass that might be a real pain.
Leaving the gray open shouldn't be a problem. I'd dump a quarter cup of the pink stuff in each trap just to be sure, each time you leave.

More good info from Jim1eddoc.
I forgot that we have also stayed at Westbay Marine too. It was real handy for downtown adventures & spectacular views of downtown and the harbor.

RE: driving washboard roads

If you shift into 4 wheel drive on washboarded roads you will see a significant improvement in the way your vehicle handles.Hmmmm... I'll have to see if this works too. Last time I about had my trailer pass me if I did more than 7mph. Yes, I do know this is the TC section, I'm just looking to see if someone knows something I don't already have an idea about. When we were on our way out of the boonies last time out, we saw the result of someone going too fast on that road, it really screwed up someones trip.
